Any DUI lawyer in Los Angeles would agree that the best way to avoid a DUI is to simply not drink and drive -- plain and simple. Because many people in Los Angeles love their booze too much and don't want to give up their drinking, it would be more practical for people to give up their driving. Unfortunately that's not always easy when living in L.A.
Party goers should first consider the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority (Metro). Metro reports that their transit service has trains and buses running as late as 1:00 a.m, and as early as 4:00 a.m. The rail service runs throughout the San Fernando Valley, to Downtown Los Angeles, to Harbor Gateway. There are also rail lines that travel to the Eastern Los Angeles region as well. Tickets are just $1.25 each way, but if you want to make the most of a bar hopping experience, it might be best to get a day pass which is just $5.00 for unlimited rides on Metro.
If you're living on the west side of L.A, you should consider taking Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus, which serves Santa Monica and neighboring communities of Los Angeles. Big Blue Bus states that their fare is just 75 cents. The bus service runs into the wee hours of the night. With over 15 routes and more than 1,150 stops, this bus is a good option for people traveling between the beach and Downtown L.A, or for people trying to get to UCLA's campus.
If all else fails, it's best to have some phone numbers handy of either friends or family members who can pick you up, in case you drink too much. It's much better to call and ask for help, than take the risk of a DUI, or serious accident.
