Lindsay Lohan seems desperate to get out of her jail sentence, but the clock is ticking down and she doesn't have much time to file for an appeal. According to E! Online, the actress has a new lawyer that is supposed to be representing her after Los Angeles DUI Attorney Shawn Chapman Holley stepped down from the DUI case.
Robert Shapiro, who is best known as one of the lawyers that represented O.J. Simpson in his murder trial, plans to be the new attorney for Lindsay Lohan. The lawyer switch will not be official until the judge overseeing the case signs off on the counsel switch.
Robert Shapiro claims that he will only represent the actress on the condition that she complies with all the terms of her probation, including her new requirement of jail time and rehabilitation. CBS News states that the actress' new Los Angeles DUI attorney does not plan to persuade Judge Marsha Revel to reevaluate Lohan's sentence, but instead plans to convince the judge that Lindsay Lohan should attend rehab before completing her jail sentence.
The lawyer told E! Online that Lindsay Lohan is "suffering from a disease" and that he hopes to implement a treatment approach recommended by medical professionals. Yet Judge Marsha Revel is one tough cookie and it doesn't look like she can be persuaded easily. At this point, it will take a very skilled Los Angeles DUI defense lawyer to convince the judge of changing the terms of the DUI sentence.
