Drivers heading to party in Hollywood this weekend should be on the lookout for sobriety checkpoints in the area. The Los Angeles Police Department has announced and confirmed that there will be law enforcers on the lookout for drunk drivers at the following locations at Los Angeles DUI Checkpoints:
- Friday July 23: Ventura Boulevard between Eureka Drive and Fruitland Drive
in North Hollywood, 8:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m. - Saturday July 24: Sunset Boulevard between Genesee Avenue and Spaulding Avenue in Hollywood, 8 p.m. - 2 a.m.
So what exactly can drivers expect when they're going through a DUI checkpoint location? Selected vehicles will be asked to stop at a checkpoint location, show proper identification, and possibly be questioned. LAPD conducts DUI checkpoints throughout the year in order to reduce the number of traffic collisions involving intoxicated drivers and hit and run collisions.
When driving through a checkpoint, it's important to realize that the state of California does have strict guidelines and restrictions when it comes DUI checkpoints. Some people are wrongfully arrested for driving under the influence at these Los Angeles checkpoints, so it's important to know your legal rights when proceeding through such roadblocks. We cover the constraints that California law enforcers have in an earlier blog post titled "Los Angeles DUI Attorneys Analyze Sobriety Checkpoints." If you feel that law enforcement officers didn't go through the right procedures to conduct a checkpoint, you always have the legal right to a Los Angeles DUI attorney. Attorneys can help people avoid a DUI conviction and provide proper defense in court.
