A suspected drunk driver was arrested early Sunday morning after he crashed into a light pole in Wildomar, reports CBS Los Angeles
Wildomar police say that 21-year-old Karl Rohlin was traveling east on Catt Road at 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning when he suddenly lost control of his car and drove it onto a sidewalk and into a cement light pole. Luckily, no one was reportedly injured in the DUI crash.
Rohlin was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after police investigation.
Under California law, the "per se" limit for drunk driving is 0.08 percent, which means that you are considered intoxicated at this level whether or not there is additional proof of impairment. Since Rohlin crashed into a light pole, however, police could arrest him even if he had a blood-alcohol content level under the per se limit based on his actions and the nature of his possible response, such as slurred speech and severe inattention, during questioning.
Given Rohlin's actions, it's understandable that authorities suspected that he was drunk at the time of the suspected DUI crash. If convicted, Karl Rohlin may not only face serious legal penalties for the offense, but he may also be held liable to the city for any property damage to the power pole and any other city property he may have damaged.
If you have been arrested on suspicion of DUI, you should consider consulting an experienced Los Angeles DUI attorney. If there has been a minor amount of damage during the DUI crash and no one has been injured, a DUI attorney may be able to argue for a lesser DUI sentence, such as probation or community service.
