In a sad twist of fate, a Good Samaritan was injured early Thursday morning for doing the right thing.

A man who stopped on the side of the Harbor (110) Freeway to help a couple of college students with a flat tire was reportedly hit by a drunk driver, reports KTLA News.

The Good Samaritan and the students were parked on the side of a freeway in West Athens when the suspected drunk driver plowed into their cars. Paramedics arrived to find a man, who they believed to be the helpful Samaritan, pinned under one of the parked vehicles.

The man was taken to Harbor General Hospital, along with four other people. Two were reportedly critically injured, while three suffered minor injuries.

CHP arrested the driver after he reportedly failed a field sobriety test.

The driver will likely face serious charges since a DUI causing injury can be charged as a felony offense that can result in imprisonment in state prison. The charge depends on such factors as the circumstances of the offense and the driver's prior criminal history. Given the events that transpired before and during the accident, the driver will likely need a very experienced Los Angeles DUI attorney to defend him against the charges and severe penalties.

If you have been arrested on suspicion of causing an injury while driving under the influence, you should also consider seeking the services of a DUI attorney. For more information on Felony DUIs and their consequences, see our Related Resources section.
